With the likelihood of random violent attacks in the world’s urban centres becoming more frequent and extreme, there doesn’t leave much room for an honourable finish to an altercation. This is especially true when the danger of an unseen secondary or tertiary attacker exists. One must be able to control and/ or finish their opponents off decisively through rendering any of their physical weapons useless. Sifu Anthony Caucci shares his Chin Na training methods to meet the demands of settling the opponent and the score throughout the one-hour runtime of this video volume. Settle in and focus on tweaking your Wing Chun.
“Chin Na is the art of grabbing, seizing, joint locks, and pressure points… with an arsenal,” opens Sifu Caucci, in addressing the nature of employing such techniques. Reinforcing that to apply them with a benevolent expectation is to allow the opponent an opportunity to continue their intentions of inflicting serious bodily harm unto you, so it is important that it incapacitates the attacker after there is disengagement. Exercising the balance of cause with practical effects safely and with maximum efficacy.
Dynamic demonstrations take centre stage throughout with stressing the importance of, “covering lines and angles so that you don’t get hit,” which is reinforced with a participating demonstration partner that introduces the possible dangers that a live assailant may attempt to thwart a practitioner’s subduing methods. A welcome address that people are live, non-compliant bodies that will go through steps one to four as is commonly practiced in the confines of a secure training environment.
Sifu Caucci builds the skill sets needed with a series of drills designed to hone the necessary reflexes before working the body with Darting, Sliding, Slapping and Vising. Each set of activities is supported with the intention of, “trying to use our Wing Chun moves and implement them into the Chin Na system… so that the block can set up the finish.” The system’s first form is compartmentalized, technique-by-technique, in order to show from start to finish how they can be played to set up a variety of subduing techniques in a variety of situations—actions that bridge the gap while doing some damage to setup for the lockup of choice. Taking the fight to the fighter highlights that in the heat of the moment, the probability that punches can be caught in mid-air with absolute certainty is a dangerous assumption of the attacker’s disposition, and is the nature of urban violent attacks.
A commitment to getting the job done decisively with a high success rate of debilitating your would-be attacker is the common denominator of this video presentation. Consistent with the tenets of the Wing Chun system to put one’s skill sets to work amongst training partners, so that they withstand the incredible pressures of the street fighting arena and on the vulnerable joints of the body. An intense look into the intense reality with intense applications for concrete combat.
